The information in this site comes from several different sources and will be cited as such.
There is much written about the late Bruce Lee, his art of Jun Fan Gung Fu and his philosophy of truth, Jeet Kune Do and there is still much controversy surrounding who is and what is correct. This web site is not about trying to clear up such arguments but to give anyone who seeks it an insight into his system and philosophy. If you have questions or arguments about “what is” and “what is not”, just read the literature published and you can formulate your own opinion. JKD allows you do be creative in your own right and express what is artistically your own.

Innovative and radically ahead of his time in his training and teaching methodology, Bruce Lee developed a martial system and fighting strategy that has lost none of its effectiveness over time.
The most important aspect of training in the philosophy of JKD is to train the human attribute set. In the book “Jeet Kune Do Unlimited” by Burton Richardson,
Attributes are the abilities that we possess that enhance our performance. These are the qualities that bring techniques alive and make them functional. The great thing about attributes is that each one can be improved through proper training. If you are not fast, do speed drills. If you are not strong, try weight training and calisthenics. Identify your weakest area and work daily to improve them (p. 38).
The following is the list of attributes he outlines in his book. If you are creative, you might think of some of your own:
- Health
- Mobility
- Attitude
- Flow
- Timing
- Power
- Speed
- Accuracy
- Coordination
- Sensitivity
- Rhythm
|

Ranges
Jun Fan falls in four basic ranges and is based on you and your size. For instance, if you are going against a very tall person, his punching range may be your kicking range. Understanding the distance where your tools are effective is extremely important.
- Kicking
- Punching
- Trapping
- Grappling
A fifth range between trapping and grappling, standing grappling has been indicated.
Footwork
The foot work in Jun Fan is important for you to control your range:
- Step & slide: forward, back, left and right
- Slide & step: forward, back
- Step - slide & slide – step: forward, back
- Slide – step & step – slide: forward, back
Emphasizing the "ranges of combat" and agility in footwork, students are taught to confidently and with ease "flow" from long distance,"kicking- range", to middle distance, "hand- range", to close quarter, "trapping & grappling range".
Principals
In Lee Jun Fan the movements are crisp, and efficient, utilizing the most direct lines and angles. JKD affords the practitioner a means by which to effectively pursue the most direct line of attack. And once an attack has been launched there are no breaks or interruptions. As one technique nears completion, it starts to blend into the next and so forth: one continuos flowing motion until the conflict is resolved.
- SIA- Single Indirect Attack
- SAA- Single Angulated Attack
- ABC- Attack By Combination
- PIA- Progressive Indirect Attack
- ABD- Attack By Drawing
- HIA- Hand Immobilization Attack
Technique
- Pak Sao Da – Slap and hit
- Lap Sao Da- Pull and hit
- Gum Sao Da- Pin and hit
- Jao Sao – Running hand
- Jut Sao- Short Snapping hand
- Huen – Circling hand
- Sut Sao- Ridge hand
Jun Fan Gung Fu classes, at Kali/JKD-U affiliate locations, are devoted entirely to teaching and preserving the arts & philosophies of the late Bruce Lee. Students are able to enhance their natural attributes, such as coordination, timing, speed, endurance, strength and agility, using the innovative teaching and training methods developed by Bruce Lee, and preserved and taught to today by his protégé, student and training partner, Dan Inosanto.
